Charlotte Jonckheer   1: PAPER / Paper as the Materialisation of Ideas:

Paper is a carrier of information, but it is also one of the most tangible materials around.

It often blurs the boundaries between dreams and reality, bringing ideas to life. No other material is better suited to containing both reality and imagination in a single object. I often use paper models to visualise ideas, and the same applies to sketches and drawings. They all share the same quality: they are not the end result. They exist to serve the purpose of something else. They give shape to a thought, a concept or a visualisation of proportions and intention. Because I know they are not the final product, they possess a particular kind of beauty. They don’t need to serve any function other than testing an idea. There’s a freedom in that. While the final realisation is always different, these early forms end up existing in their own right. They become temporary yet complete objects. They are canvases onto which ideas are projected. Once their original purpose is fulfilled, they can take on new meanings. They are neither pretentious nor public, but they serve as a conversation starter.

Paper is the realm of ideas, impossible realisations, projections and dreams.
