MASSE WOOD BENCH

Element 1_Variation
Masse objects are results of a comprehensive research into materiality, mass and density, originally applied to the self-developed stone-like Chaud paper composite (CPC) and its distinctive qualities.

This newest variation on the Element 1 bench, realized in Pinus Sylvestris offers a different finding in relation to form, structure and aesthetics.
Through the Shou Sugi Ban technique, the inner structure of the pine wood reveals itself. The unique drawings which appear after burning and brushing the carefully selected pine wood, create distinctive compositions between the different cuts of the wood; The beams of the seat which are rift sawn, accentuate the horizontal direction and the legs which are flat sawn unveil the circular end grain at the top.

All pieces are finished with a slightly colored linseed oil nourishing the wood as well as its subtile nuances of black, brown and hints of bleu.
As a result each bench encompasses the generous applicability and beauty of the material in a straightforward design.

The selection of the wood and manufacturing of the wooden structure are meticulously made by Mathijs Huyghebaert. The finish is applied with great care at the studio.

All pieces have unique drawings, are numbered by date and signed.
